Privacy Policy
Last updated: 6 November 2026
Geography Quiz Lab (we, us) publishes free map, flag and capitals quizzes and printable maps and worksheets at geographyquizlab.com. This policy explains what information is collected when you visit, why it is collected, and what you can do about it.
The short version
- There are no accounts. We never ask you to sign up or log in.
- Your best times and quiz settings are stored in your own browser, not on our servers.
- The answers you type or click in a quiz are checked in your browser and are not sent to us.
- We use analytics to see which quizzes and pages people use. We plan to show advertising in future, which will use third-party cookies.
- We don't sell your personal information.
Information you give us
Only what you choose to send. If you email us, including through a report a mistake link, we receive your email address and your message and keep them as long as we need to reply or to fix the problem you reported. We don't add anyone to a mailing list.
Best times and settings stay on your device
Best times, scores and settings such as the quiz mode you last used or whether other territories are switched on are kept in your browser's local storage so they are there next time you visit. They never leave your device. Clearing your browser data deletes them, and we can't restore them because we never had them.
Information collected automatically
Like nearly every website, our hosting and analytics record technical details of each visit: the pages viewed, the page or search that sent you, approximate location derived from your IP address (city or region, not street level), browser and device type, screen size, language and time. We use this in aggregate to see which quizzes and maps are popular, which pages are broken and where the site is slow.
The quiz player also reports when a quiz is started and finished: which quiz it was, the mode, how many seconds it took and the score. These reports contain nothing that identifies you, and they don't include the individual answers you gave.
Analytics
- Google Analytics 4 (Google LLC): aggregate traffic measurement, processed as described in Google's privacy policy. You can opt out with Google's browser add-on for Analytics.
- Microsoft Clarity (Microsoft Corporation), which we plan to add: heatmaps and anonymized session replay used to find usability problems, such as a map region people struggle to click or a button they miss. Clarity masks typed text by default. See the Microsoft privacy statement for details. We will update this policy when it is switched on.
Advertising
Geography Quiz Lab is free, and we plan to support it with display advertising. Ads will never be placed inside or beside the quiz map. Once ads are running, our advertising partners and their vendors may set cookies or similar identifiers to measure ad performance and, where permitted, to show ads relevant to your interests. They may receive your IP address, browser details and the pages you view here. We don't receive or store the personal information they collect, and we don't sell personal information.
Where the law requires consent for personalized advertising, including in the EU and UK, you'll see a consent notice and can change your choice at any time. Residents of California and other US states with similar laws will be able to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information for targeted advertising through the same notice or by emailing us. You can also opt out of interest-based ads at optout.aboutads.info and youronlinechoices.eu. We will update this policy when advertising starts.
Cookies
We use cookies and local storage for analytics, for advertising once it starts, and to remember your best times and choices. Every browser lets you block or delete cookies. The quizzes, printable maps and worksheets work without them; you'll only lose your saved times and settings.
Children's privacy
Geography Quiz Lab is written for adults, lifelong learners and teachers. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Teachers who use the quizzes or printables with a class should follow their school's rules on websites and student data. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, email us and we will delete it.
How long we keep data
Analytics data is kept in aggregate for up to 14 months and then deleted automatically. Emails are kept only as long as they are useful for answering you or fixing a reported problem.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal information we hold about you, to object to or restrict how it is used, to receive a copy of it, or to opt out of its sale or sharing. These rights apply under the EU and UK GDPR, the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended, the Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut and Utah privacy acts, and comparable laws. Email us to use any of them; we'll answer within 30 days.
Changes and contact
If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Questions about privacy go to hello@geographyquizlab.com, or see the contact page. Our terms of use cover how you may use the quizzes, maps and worksheets.
